Nu am fost niciodata mare fan Sammy Hagar,si cand Van Halen(una din trupele mele de suflet) a trecut prin bine-cunoscutele schimbari de componenta nu le-am privit ca pe ceva de viitor,am avut dreptate.Cand am vazut ca a mai si inceput sa arunce cu noroi in membrii trupei,Hagar a scazut si mai mult in ochii mei.Trecand peste toate acestea,stiam melodia “I can’t drive 55” de ceva vreme,nestiind insa cine e “autorul”,desi nu ma dau in vant dupa solist trebuie sa recunosc ca melodia e cu adevarat buna si ca pe cont propiu Hagar lucreaza mult mai bine decat “in echipa”.
Melodia face parte de pe al 8’lea album din discografia Sammy Hagar,VOA,lansat in 1984.A devenit repede un hit,una din melodiile de baza ale concertelor sale,in aceea perioada membru Van Halen.Pe langa popularitatea pe care a castigato in randul fanilor,cantecul a devenit si “imnul” National Maximum Speed Law in USA,limita de viteza fiind de 55 de mile,89 km.VH1 a numit cantecul al 100’lea cel mai bun din istoria Hard Rock’ului.
