John Henry Bonham s-a nascut pe data de 31 Mai 1948 in Reddicth,Worcestershire,Anglia si a murit pe data de 25 Septembrie 1980,la varsta de 32 de ani.Pasiunea fata de muzica a simtit-o inca de mic copil,a inceput sa cante la tobe de la 5 ani,iar primul set adevarat l-a primit la 15 ani.Nu a luat lectii cu un profesor niciodata,ii imita doar pe idolii sai,Gene Krupa si Buddy Rich.In '62 intra in trupa Blue Star Trio.In 1964 intra in diferite trupe locale precum The Nicky James Movement sau The Senators cu care a lansat single'ul "She's a mod" cu care au inregistrat un oarecare succes.2 ani mai tarziu intra in trupa A way of life care se desparte in scurt timp,vazandu-se nevoit sa-si indrepte atentia catre grupul blues,Crawling King Snakes a carui solist era Robert Plant.In 1967 A way of life l-au rugat pe Bonham sa se intoarca,iar acesta a acceptat dar a pastrat contactul cu Plant.Acesta s-a hotarat sa formeze trupa Band of Joy iar primul tobosar la care s-a gandit a fost John.In 1968 Tim Rose are un turneu in Marea Britanie si i-au rugat pe Band of Joy sa cante in deschiderea concertelor.Peste 6 luni Tim se intoarce in Marea Britanie si l-a invitat pe John sa cante in trupa sa.Dupa ce s-a despartit trupa The Yardbirds,Jimmy Page isi face o noua trupa si il coopteaza pe Plant care il sugereaza pe Bonham.B.J Wilson,Clem Cattini,Aynsley Dunbar sau Ginger Baker erau oamenii la acre s-a gandit Page pentru a fi tobosari in trupa sa.In Iulie 1968 Jimmy si managerul trupei,Peter Grant il vad pe Bonham la un concert alaturi de trupa lui Tim Rose si au fost impresionati pe loc,il gasisera pa noul tobosar!
Iar trupa isi schimba numele in Led Zeppelin.Bonham fiind unul dintre cei mai cautati la ora aceea a primit diferite oferte si de la Joe Cocker sau Chris Farlowe iar dupa ce a acceptat invitatia lui page a declarat "I decided!I liked their music better then Cocker's or Farlowe's."
In primul turneu Led Zepp din USA Bonham se imprieteneste cu tobosarul trupei Vanilla Fudge,Carmine Appice care "ii face cunostiinta" cu tobele Ludwig Drums care urmeaza sa le foloseasca intreaga cariera.Bonham ar eun stil aparte,unul dintre cei mai buni tobosari ai lumii folosea cele mai lungi si grele bete,fapt care il ajuta sa scoata anumite sunete unice.Un stil care il difera de ceilalti tobosar,in melodiile "Kashmir","The Ocean" si "Immigrant song" se difensc cel mai bine sunetele tobelor,suntele lui specifice."Misty Mountain Hop" este cantecul care pune in evidenta energia lui John,iar in "Royal Orleans" se poate definii stilul samba pe care John l-a abordat.Cat a fost in Led Zepp a mai cantat si alaturi de alti artisti precum Paul McCartney,canta la nunta lui Tony Iommi si apare in filmul Son of Dracula.
Cel mai faimos solo al sau este cel din "Moby Dick" pe care John il face alternand bataile betelor cu cele ale palmelor.Pe 24 Septembrie 1980 a baut 16 pahare cu vodka(intre 400-560 ml)iar apoi a continuat sa bea si s-a culcat.Dupa-amiaza urmatoare,Benji LeFevre si John Paul Jones l-au gasit mort.Avea doar 32 de ani.El a vomitat si a inhalat voma astfel s-a axfisiat si a murit.

In 2007 Stylus Magazine l-a plasat pe Bonham pe locul 1 in Top 50 greatest rock drummers,de asemenea pe locul 1 in Top 50 greatest rock drummers,top facut de Classic Rock's in 2005.Madern drummer l-a catalogat drept "cel mai bun tobosar din istoria rock n'roll-ului",iar Blabbermouth.net a facut o lista cu rock star'uri pe care fanii ii vor inapoi,in varful listei se regasesc Freddie Mercuri,Elvis si John Bonham.El a fost si ramane o adevarat sursa de insiratie pentru multi tobosari,Dave Grohl,Peter Criss,Chad Smith sau Tommy Lee sunt doar o parte dintre ei care au gasit in Bonham o adevarata sursa de insipartie.
Dave Grohl a declarat:
"John Bonham played the drums like someone who didn't know what was going to happen next—like he was teetering on the edge of a cliff. No one has come close to that since, and I don't think anybody ever will. I think he will forever be the greatest drummer of all time."

John Bonham is the best at being John Bonham and doing what he does. Or did—unfortunately, he's dead. He was the best. There wasn't anyone better than John Bonham at doing that, and thank goodness we've got some records so that you can hear it.
Chad Smith:
To me, hands down, John Bonham was the best rock drummer ever. The style and the sound was so identifiable to one person. Any drum set that he would play, it sounded like him.
John Bonham a fost,este si av fi cel mai bun tobosar...legenda ramane chiar daca trupul nu mai e aici.Sufletul si legenda inca sunt cu noi.
